The Post Office reminds travellers that excessive alcohol intake can affect travel insurance claims

As ski enthusiasts seek the close of season European slopes, a survey from the Association of British Travel Insurers has revealed that one in five UK skiers admit to overindulging on alcohol during their holidays. Almost half (40 per cent) admit to skiing while nursing a hangover, potentially increasing the risk of accidents and travel insurance claims.

Further research on skiing and drinking from Post Office Travel Insurance reveals that almost half of men (45 per cent) drink up to ten units in one night. This means that they are likely to still have alcohol in their blood the following morning, which means any accidents suffered in this period may not be covered by travel insurance.

Rachel Croft, Head of Post Office Travel Insurance said: "Most people wouldn’t dream of drinking and driving, but hitting a ski slope under the influence of alcohol can be just as dangerous.

"People are increasing their chance of having an accident, but they are also potentially invalidating their travel insurance cover which means they could be hit with a hefty medical bill."

Post Office Travel Insurance provides a range of options for every traveller, from single trip to annual and winter sports policies. Customer service teams can discuss your individual situation and advise on an appropriate travel insurance policy.
