It is the look on the face of a child as they see imaginary worlds brought to life and they become heroes in a real life adventure that they had only ever dreamed about before.

Summertime is almost here, and parents now have the option of a singular summer camp concept based on a live, interactive, and educational story for young heroes. At Guard Up summer camps, fantasy comes to life as kids and teens unplug their electronics and engage their imaginations. Campers enter a brave new world, where they forge their own destiny, standing shoulder to shoulder with their fellow heroes. Joining together as a team, they fight treacherous villains and gruesome zombies, solve ancient mysteries, defend fragile land, and win long lost treasure.
Guard Up has enlisted the help of a number of brilliant instructors, actors and game developers to devise a custom Live Role Playing Game, and has hired professional archaeologists, historians, and other teachers to help campers learn about history, literature, mythology, biology, and environmental science & conservation. Students will also learn important life skills in a highly entertaining and creative environment such as strategy, tactics, teamwork and problem solving.
At the Wizards & Warriors summer camp, campers enter an imaginary realm and embark on an unforgettable adventure, taking up foam swords and crossbows to mount a battle for good versus evil against an assortment of fantasy villains. Nerf Camp, a new concept at Guard Up, lets defenders take up nerf blasters against zombies in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. These camps offer the types of adventure loved by families through the magic of books, film or video games, but in real, physically challenging, and socially interactive environments.
The Wizards & Warriors Summer Day Camps are located in Burlington, Massachusetts at their spacious, climate controlled facility. Both Wizards & Warriors and Nerf Summer Overnight Camps are located in Westford, Massachusetts. The spacious camp cabins include electricity and bug screens, and private showers are available. The “tavern” features a modern kitchen and Massachusetts ServSafe® Certified cook staff. Food at Guard Up has been rated as some of the best ever experienced at camp, especially the Heroes Feast at the end of the week. A variety of special diets, including vegetarian, diabetic, and others, can be accommodated. The camp’s grounds are also home to woodland trails, meadows, and wetlands. There is even a giant “Catacomb Building” which allows staff to run adventures when the weather does not cooperate.
“We have two mottos at all of our Camps. One guides our creative process, and the other guides our operational methods,” explains Meghan Garner, who founded Guard Up and has been nominated for the Massachusetts SBA Small Business Person of the Year. “Our motto for the first is Honor, Compassion, Courage. These are the three attributes we want our campers to explore as they define the term Hero. The second and most important motto is Safe, Fun, Educational. These are our three rules of operation. Every adventure, activity, and interaction that our campers experience must incorporate these three rules, in order of priority.”
Parents can be assured that Guard Up’s 4:1 camper to staff ratio and average staff age of 30 will keep their young warriors safe while they have the summer of their life. And since many of the campers stay in touch throughout the year while they plan for next summer’s adventure, your child’s allies may well become lifelong friends.
While Guard Up’s novel concept has attracted much attention, it is the camp’s high standard of instructor training and its emphasis on sports and creative games as vehicles for positive personal growth that has made it a success. For Meghan and the staff, what motivates them is simple. It is the look on the face of a child as they see imaginary worlds brought to life. It is the thrill Guard Up’s campers experience as heroes in a real life adventure that they had only ever dreamed about before.
