Edmonton-based marketing boutique announced Break 4 Japan, an arts-based disaster relief fundraising event in support of the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

This is a great opportunity for Edmontonians and the businesses of West Edmonton Mall to rally behind a important cause and to feel like they’ve made an impact in Japan.”

Urban Jungle, an Edmonton-based marketing firm announced today it will produce Break 4 Japan, a disaster relief fundraising event in support of the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The event is scheduled to take place at the NewCap stage in West Edmonton Mall (WEM) on holiday Monday of Victoria Day Long Weekend.

This family-friendly, high-energy, free event will be powered by some of Edmonton’s most talented artists.

The afternoon will feature a funk DJ-infused break dancing competition with over 80 dancers battling it out on stage for 4 hours. The event will also feature break dancing lessons for kids, incredible prizes donated by many of the businesses of WEM, and a live art studio showcasing brilliant Edmonton artists. The art will be auctioned off with all proceeds going directly to the Canadian Red Cross.

“It’s pretty upsetting to see what’s happened in Japan,” says Craig Blackburn, Principal of Urban Jungle. “I can’t imagine what these people are going through and we’ll do whatever we can to help out. This is a great opportunity for Edmontonians and the businesses of West Edmonton Mall to rally behind a important cause and to feel like they’ve made an impact in Japan.”

The fundraiser event hopes to raise $50,000 through the participating WEM stores collection of customer pledges, through its events sponsors and participants, and through the art auction. All proceeds will be donated directly to the Canadian Red Cross for exclusive relief efforts in Japan. “I realize $50,000 is ambitious, but I am confident we can reach our goal,” says Blackburn.

“This is going to be such an exciting event for Edmonton,” adds Jayme Cloutier, Break 4 Japan’s Event Coordinator. “We’re lucky to have so many amazing dancers including, The Fly Girlz, The Beat Killers, HoNuthaLevel and other Alberta based Bboy and Bgirl crews. These performers are insanely talented and they’re excited to show Edmonton what they can do. Even if people can only come for an hour, we urge everyone to show their support for the cause and experience the vibrant talent this city has to offer.”
