Buyve.com, a Philadelphia based online bookstore, is campaigning to reach 250,000 “Likes” on their Facebook page in order to raise $40,000 in college scholarship funding for Javier Ramos. Javier, a 18 year old high school honors student from Camden, NJ, was accepted to Fordham University but cannot afford to attend without this opportunity. Buyve.com’s campaign is a unique, groundbreaking use of social media as it is the first user-driven college scholarship.
Javier’s father lost his job at the Camden City Fire Department in January 2011 due to Camden City’s recent budget cuts, putting considerable financial pressure on Javier’s family. Javier’s sister also currently attends college, at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Anyone on Facebook can help fund Javier’s scholarship by simply “Liking” Buyve.com’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/Buyve.
http://www.Buyve.com is the online marketplace for Education by Inclusion, a Benefit Corporation located in Philadelphia, PA. Education by Inclusion’s mission is to use their e-commerce revenue to fund college scholarships. This particular scholarship is being done in partnership with Philadelphia non-profit, Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia.
