Founded in 2005, the Jerome Lohez 9/11 Scholarship Foundation is dedicated to the memory of a young Frenchman who died on 9/11/01 in the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Its mission is to help bridge the cultural gap between France and the U.S. by encouraging higher-education exchange between the two countries.
On May 12, 2011, Jerome Lohez’ widow, Ms. Dening Wu Lohez, will host the foundation’s annual Awards Presentation Cocktail Party at the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, 972 Fifth Avenue in New York City, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
During the event, three French student recipients of Lohez 9/11 Foundation Scholarships will receive cash awards to assist their graduate studies in the United States. The event is being held under the patronage of His Excellency Francois Delattre, French Ambassador to the U.S. Mr. Antonin Baudry, Cultural Counselor to the French Embassy, will preside on behalf of the Ambassador.
This year, also, special awards will be given to two academic institutions for their distinguished efforts on behalf of French-American educational exchange: L’École pour L’Informatique et les Techniques Avancées (EPITA) in Paris and Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., USA.
Monsieur Fabrice Bardeche, President of EPITA, will deliver remarks and also present a generous donation to Ms. Lohez in recognition of the foundation’s five years of work.
This year’s Lohez Scholarship recipients are Paula Henin – London School of Economics - Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne - Columbia University Law School; Hélène Franchineau – Sciences Po - Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism; and Alban Pétré – EPITA - Stevens Institute of Technology.
