“We wanted to do our part to make sure the children of Japan had access to much needed clean water."
Sussex, WI (PRWEB) April 21, 2011
Wisconsin-based charity, CannedWater4kids has arranged to ship a truckload of 52,800 12-ounce cans of water to Second Harvest of Japan. Once received, the water will be distributed to children in homeless shelters and orphanages.
"Japan's recent earthquake and related events, has caused many life staples to be gone or in short supply,” said CannedWater4Kids founder and CEO, Greg Stromberg. “We wanted to do our part to make sure the children of Japan had access to much needed clean water."
Water in some areas of Japan has been deemed unsafe for infants and could potentially be harmful for young children. Stromberg and CannedWater4kids have a history of getting involved in addressing safe drinking water problems which arise as a result of natural disasters.
"This effort is very similar to the efforts we were involved in after the earthquake in Haiti a year ago,” said Stromberg. “Of special note is that the overseas freight cost of this effort was donated by UPS through Aidmatrix.org. In addition, WaterCharity.org has offered up $5,000 to help us offset the $11,500 filling and packing costs. We are grateful for their support."
The water will be picked up at 8:30 a.m. at INX International Ink Co. (5501 W. Mill Road Milwaukee, WI) and Stromberg will be on hand to help load the truck and to answer any questions about CannedWater4kids and their involvement in the relief efforts in Japan and working towards safe drinking water solutions across the globe.
