Connected Nation, a leading national nonprofit technology services organization, has been selected as one of the top 10 best places to work in Kentucky for 2011. The honor was announced Wednesday by the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management State Council, the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, and Best Companies Group during the seventh annual Best Places to Work in Kentucky awards ceremony.
Connected Nation was honored along with the other winners at the Awards Dinner on Wednesday at the Lexington Convention Center, where the final rankings of the 65 selected Best Places companies were announced. Connected Nation was ranked eighth, the second highest ranking ever for a first-time winner, in the small/medium companies category.
Winners were ranked in two categories — small/medium companies with 25 to 249 U.S. employees and large companies with 250 or more U.S. employees. The selection process is based on an assessment of the company’s employee policies and procedures and the results of an internal employee survey, administered by Best Companies Group.
Connected Nation, with its core operations office based in Bowling Green, Kentucky, was ranked third in the relationship with supervisor category.
Connected Nation has a program footprint that spans more than 30 states and territories from Alaska to Puerto Rico and is currently managing broadband expansion programs in 12 states and territories across the nation. Connected Nation was the single largest contributor to the milestone National Broadband Map released in February.

Connected Nation has employees across the country working with state and local stakeholders to create economic development opportunities through technology expansion and is currently hiring for several positions (see Careers page here). Connected Nation’s employee policies include allowing teleworking, encouraging professional development, and an open-door policy across the entire organization.

To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
- Have at least 25 employees working in Kentucky;
- Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity;
- Be a publicly or privately held business;
- Have a facility in the state of Kentucky; and
- Must be in business a minimum of 1 year.
