Radiometer Launches ABL80 FLEX CO-OX (OSM version) Next-generation Standalone CO-oximeter

The ABL80 FLEX CO-OX (OSM version) is Radiometer’s newest standalone CO-oximeter. Superior test accuracy, combined with the analyzer’s test readiness, fast turnaround and intuitive operation, make it ideal for use in clinical areas such as the cardiac cath lab.

Compact. Cartridge-based. Low operating costs. And with the same performance known from Radiometer’s benchtop analyzers like the ABL700 and ABL800 FLEX. That’s how Radiometer describes the OSM version of the ABL80 FLEX CO-OX, its new, next-generation standalone CO-oximeter.

Successor to Radiometer’s OSM3 CO-OX-only analyzer, the new OSM version of the ABL80 FLEX CO-OX provides a broad CO-OX parameter panel for multiple clinical applications, including cardiac catheterization labs, where an oximeter is required during procedures such as angioplasty. CO-oximeters are also typically used to detect hypoxia (too little oxygen in the blood), a condition that can cause severe damage to the heart and central nervous system. This is an especially useful indicator for critical patients in the emergency department or ICU.

According to Jakob Møller-Jensen, Radiometer’s Global Product Manager for the OSM version of the ABL80 FLEX CO-OX, the new CO-OX only analyzer brings together the best of both worlds. “With the new OSM version, we were able to take the same kind of accuracy our customers expect from one of our traditional benchtop analyzers and put it into a compact, easy-to-use, cartridge-based analyzer,” says Møller-Jensen.

“Because the OSM version of the ABL80 FLEX CO-OX offers only CO-OX parameters,” says Jakob, “it is able to deliver results more quickly and at a lower cost compared with combination blood gas-CO-OX analyzers. This is ideal in situations where only CO-OX parameters are needed, like in the cath lab. These benefits, along with important features like automatic quality control and connectivity, make the analyzer a winning combination for acute care testing.”

Key features and benefits of the OSM version of the ABL80 FLEX CO-OX include:

  • Broad CO-OX parameter panel – for multiple clinical applications
  • Ultrasonic hemolyzation – for precise and accurate measurements
  • Simple main menu, on-board tutorials and no maintenance – easy to use at the point of care
  • Full network connectivity – no manual entry of results, reducing the potential of transcription
  • Automatic Quality Control – compliance made easy
