Age-management leader Cenegenics® Medical Institute announced the release of a bold, inspiring book by one of its physicians, surgeon/cancer specialist Dr. Joseph E. Bosiljevac, Jr. The book—Surviving Cancer: Use of complementary and alternative methods in the treatment of breast cancer—is being featured at several book exhibits nationally and internationally.

Published by Xlibris,Surviving Cancer reflects Bosiljevac’s scientific analysis, observations and a patient’s journey with Stage III breast cancer who chose alternative methods of treatment—and for 17 years has had no evidence of the tumor. The patient far exceeded the textbook “10% chance of surviving five years” under Bosiljevac’s supervision, who used the patient’s health-and-faith journey as a case study for his PhD dissertation in natural medicine.

In keeping with the Cenegenics proactive approach to health, Bosiljevac’s book also offers crucial preventive measures for enjoying a healthier life, including hormonal manipulations, evidence-based medicine, reduced sugar intake, vitamin C, red clover, cruciferous vegetables, green tea, isoflavones and even spirituality.

“This is not to say that natural medicine is the complete answer. There are no magic bullets. I look at both sides of the fence when treating patients now—using some components of conventional medicine and some of natural medicine to improve a patient’s health outcome. The key is to fine tune the body, a human machine, getting it to run optimally, which means overall chemical balance so genes express themselves as they did when we were in our 20s and 30s. If you provide the machine with the basics, it will help repair itself. The two biggest elements from the natural medicine component is nutrition and detoxification,” Bosiljevac said.

The biological pathways related to cell physiology, cancer development/treatment and the hormone axis are quite complex and interrelated, per Bosiljevac, who believes a smart first step is the Cenegenics age-management program, which helps get the “human machine” into chemical and hormone balance.

“When most people become overweight and start to go downhill, they end up taking blood pressure medicine, heart medicine . . . or become a borderline diabetic and have high cholesterol. Unfortunately, too many of them accept subpar health as a normal part of aging. It’s not. And that is where Cenegenics becomes the first line of defense to reestablish the body’s hormonal and chemical balance,” Bosiljevac said.

Another reason for writing the book, Bosiljevac says, is to arouse curiosity in his medical colleagues, encouraging them to “think outside the box a little regarding what we have to offer our patients.”

Recently, Bosiljevac’s Surviving Cancer book was featured at the 2011 London Book Fair (London, England) and the 2011 American Library Association-Midwinter Book Exhibit (San Diego, CA). It is scheduled to be featured at the June 2011 American Library Association Annual Book Exhibit (New Orleans, LA).

The book is available in paperback, hardback and as an eBook online, where you also can watch a trailer about the book and a video by the author.
