Advanced Systems Group (ASG), the Denver-based IT consulting, integration, and project management firm, is proud to announce it is celebrating 30 years in business. Over the past three decades ASG has grown to a 152 million dollar company with 108 employees across 10 states with over 1500 clients. ASG has won much praise and many awards over the years including the VAR 500 and the CRN Tech Elite 250. The company will mark its anniversary with a celebration on May 19th at the company’s headquarters in Thornton, CO.

ASG has helped many companies create and manage their IT systems with particular emphasis on organizing and sharing vast amount of data. The explosion in the storage and data management fields has helped drive ASGs growth over the past 10 years.

ASG was founded in 1981 by David Sosnowski and later joined by fellow University of Colorado alumni John Murphy, Executive Vice President, and Dan Park, Chief Information Officer. “In 1980 we started a ComputerLand franchise near Denver and that little store evolved over time into a multi-million dollar business,” said John Murphy, ASG Executive Vice President.

“One of the reasons for our long-term success has been our ability to accurately predict shifts in the marketplace that impact our customers. The tremendous rise in the amount data is driving IT organizations to look for smarter, more efficient ways to store, access and retrieve their information. We look back in amazement at our growth over the last 30 years and are looking forward to helping our customers address their cloud and virtualization needs, as well as help them to identify growth opportunities while also limiting risk.”

Focus On Customer Needs
Originally founded in 1980 as Virtual Enterprises, Inc., the company quickly grew to include over eight stores in the Denver area. By 1989, the company was firmly established, serving the needs of the engineering and scientific communities. In 1992, Virtual Enterprises consolidated into a single location in Denver operating solely as Advanced Systems Group.

ASG has evolved over the years to meet the needs of their customers. In the late 1980s the company sold engineering workstations. A few years later the emphasis shifted to selling and implementing Sun Microsystems UNIX hardware. In the late 1990s, customers needed ASG’s expertise to understand, deploy and leverage databases and clustered environments. Over the past 10 years the continued rise of the Internet has led to a dramatic increase in the volume of data and information that is being stored and shared, which has led ASG to focus its expertise in storage and data management.

The Future of ASG
If the last 10 years were all about the tremendous growth and volume of data, ASG’s customers are intrigued by what is on the horizon. Says Murphy, “In the next 10 years we see two areas of sustained growth, mobile computing and cloud computing. With cloud computing employees will be able to access their data and information from almost any computer network. Mobility, and the ability to access data, plays right into the growth of mobile strategies and technologies. We have learned a tremendous amount over the past 30 years and we look forward to applying these lessons learned to helping our customers achieve success.”

ASG provides a variety of IT consulting areas of emphasis including virtualization, professional services, and assessments and audits. ASG works with a number of leading partners in the IT consulting world including Microsoft, Oracle, Hitachi Data Systems, NetApp, Cisco Systems, Hewlett Packard, Symantec and VMware. As a consistent member of the VAR Business Top 500, ASG pursues active involvement in the industry, maintaining the highest level of engineering certifications with partners and the vendor community.
