Tidewater Golf Club And Grande Dunes Resort Club Are Among The Best In The Nation, Says Golf Digest

Grande Dunes Resort Club, located in Myrtle Beach, S. C., and Tidewater Golf Club in North Myrtle Beach, are on Golf Digest's list of “America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses” for 2011-2012 which is published in the May issue. Both courses were also on the magazine's biennial list the last time it was published in 2009.

Only six golf courses in South Carolina — a state known for great golf — made Golf Digest's list of America's 100 Greatest. In addition to Grande Dunes and Tidewater, the world-renowned Ocean Course at Kiawah Island and Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island made the list, as did the storied Robert Trent Jones classic, The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, and the much-acclaimed Jack Nicklaus signature design, May River Golf Course in Bluffton.

“We're thrilled to have two of our courses make this prestigious list again — and we're honored to be in such great company,” said Bob Swezey, executive vice president of golf operations at Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. “Year after year, Grande Dunes Resort Course and Tidewater Golf Club catch the attention of expert raters and visiting customers alike. That's a tribute to the design architects and to our course superintendents who maintain and manage them in such great condition all year long. Golfers can be sure that when they choose the golf capital of the world, Myrtle Beach, for their vacations, they'll have the opportunity to play some of the best courses in the world.”

Located near the heart of Myrtle Beach, the Grande Dunes Resort Club winds along a high bluff on the western side of the Intracoastal Waterway. The location of this Roger Rulewich Group design affords stunning views, as its links-style layout serves up a variety of risk-reward challenges. The breeze off the Atlantic a mile away always seems to come into play, but golfers have plenty of room to navigate the expansive fairways and modestly-contoured, subtly-undulated greens. In 2009, the Grande Dunes Resort Club was also named the “National Golf Course of the Year” by the National Golf Course Owners Association of America for its service, quality and commitment to the community.

A few miles north of Grande Dunes on the Little River Neck peninsula, Tidewater's layout winds along the bluffs and through a pristine forest overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway, Atlantic Ocean and salt marshes of Cherry Grove Inlet. Tidewater is known for its spectacular vistas, as well as great golf. Designed by Ken Tomlinson, with an assist by U. S. Open Champion Hale Irwin, it has been attracting awards since it opened in 1990 and is one of the most honored courses in the golf capital. It is consistently recognized as one of the country's Top 100 public courses by Golf Magazine and Golfweek, as well as Golf Digest. To this day, it remains the only layout ever to be named "Best New Course" by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine.
