iUniverse, the leading book marketing, editorial services, and supported self-publishing imprint, has announced that New York Times best-selling author Lisa Genova will present a keynote speech October 15 during the inaugural Indie Author Conference in Indianapolis.
Genova’s iUniverse-published title “Still Alice” was acquired by Simon & Schuster in 2008 and re-released through its Pocket Books imprint in January 2009. That month, “Still Alice” debuted at number five on the New York Times best-seller list and was designated both a Target Book Club Pick and a Borders Book Club Pick. Later it was released worldwide in countries ranging from Brazil to Denmark. Her latest novel, “Left Neglected” debuted in January 2011and has appeared on the best-seller list as well.
“Lisa wrote a great book (‘Still Alice’) and although it at first was not accepted by the traditional publishing community, she persevered and continued to believe in her work. Against the advice of some, she chose to self-publish and continued to spread the word about her book until publishers had no choice but to sit up and take notice. She is indeed a role model for any author who’s been told no by a publisher or agent,” said Keith Ogorek, senior vice president of marketing for Author Solutions, Inc., iUniverse’s parent company.
The Indie Author Conference is being held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Indianapolis on Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15. Admissions to the conference are being capped at just 300, so authors are encouraged to secure their spot today by calling 1-800-AUTHORS.
