Artist uses Facebook and Twitter to raise awareness for suicide prevention by creating modern art through social media input and interaction.

Fine Artist Grechen Spottke announced the launch of her interactive Social Media Art Project to benefit the Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE).

The project will launch May 1st, 2011 on Facebook where visitors will have the unique opportunity to participate in the creation an original painting by submitting their own ideas of what they would like to see in the painting.

The five ideas that are selected by Grechen will be incorporated into the work, with an unveiling of the finished piece scheduled for May 9th, 2011 on Facebook. The painting will then be donated to SAVE and auctioned at the 6th Annual SAVE Fashion Show on Friday, May 13th, 2011 at the Bayview Event Center in Excelsior, MN.

Grechen Spottke stated, “My goal with this project is to raise awareness of a hugely impactful social problem that really isn’t talked about in a social setting. Suicide and depression touch millions of lives a year, including my own, and I wanted to find a way to help bring attention to this issue by using art.”

To participate in this project and get your idea incorporated into the painting, go to Grechen Spottke’s Artist page on Facebook and submit your idea on Grechen’s wall May 1st, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST.
