The eighth annual Arthritis Walk expects to draw over 150 participants.

Participating in the Arthritis Walk is a step in the right direction for anyone who wants to make difference in the fight against arthritis and improve their overall health.

The Arthritis Foundation Upper Midwest Region (AFUMR) will hold its eighth annual Washington County Arthritis Walk, a one-day walk to help fight arthritis, the nation’s number one cause of physical disability, May 14. The AFUMR is seeking participants to take part in the fight against arthritis. Participants can register online at http://www.washingtoncountyarthritiswalk .kintera.org, or at the event. Participants that raise $100 will receive a free t-shirt and those that raise $200 are eligible for National Arthritis Foundation incentive prizes.

The Washington County Arthritis Walk will be held at Cedar Ridge Apartments in West Bend. Participants can choose between a one-mile or three-mile walk route, both of which start at 10 a.m.

The walk is fully supported and features snacks, water and entertainment. Those not interested in walking are urged to volunteer on the day of the walk, call 414-321-3933 for more information.

In 2010, more than 200 people participated in the Washington County Arthritis Walk and raised more than $11,500 for programs and services for the estimated 2.2 million people living with arthritis in the Upper Midwest Region area which includes Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota.

“Arthritis should not be seen as something that comes with age,” Dr. John H. Klippel, president and CEO of the Arthritis Foundation. “We can take steps to prevent and control arthritis by doing things like exercising, eating a balanced diet and educating ourselves on how to live a healthy lifestyle. Participating in the Arthritis Walk is a step in the right direction for anyone who wants to make difference in the fight against arthritis and improve their overall health.”

The Arthritis Foundation Upper Midwest Region will hold 13 Arthritis Walks this year to raise money to fund programs and services. The Arthritis Walk is the signature event of the Arthritis Foundation and takes place in numerous communities across the country.
