He was growing up quite carefree as a young boy in a world that was engaged in World War II. But he had two unsung heroes who guided him through his formative years: his grandfather, Joseph, and his father, Norman J. And in this newly published book of biographies, author Norman G. Sigrist shares the stories, experiences, and lessons of Two Quiet Heroes and One Grateful Son through a nostalgic narrative that readers are sure to enjoy and learn from.
Two Quiet Heroes and One Grateful Son looks back at the life and times of Joseph “Jojo” Wiest, the author’s grandfather, a colorful survivor of the Spanish American War. Jojo told him his interesting military adventures that had held him spellbound. Very impressed, the author can still remember even to this day these stories word for word. Equally adored by the author is his father, Norman J. Though he was a silent man, the author has considered him his idol, too, because of his quiet, kind ways. Both these role models blessed him with a solid foundation of principles and values to live by. Not only did they influence the author, but they also blessed other individuals with their random acts of kindness.
In this book, the author recalls a bunch of memories derived from stories that various family members revealed to him, mostly about events that happened long before he was born. He shares how they have continued to impact his life even until today. And interspersed within these interesting stories, encounters, and family values are historical events that many readers can remember and relate to.
“I wrote this book with fond and humorous memories from what seemed like only yesterday. Yet, today I’m a seventy eight years young country boy from Western New York,” fondly shares the author.
Two Quiet Heroes and One Grateful Son will be featured at the 2011 BookExpo America in New York City, NY on May 26-28, 2011.
