With ContractExpress for SharePoint, Baker Donelson can proactively respond to client pressure for AFA’s by automating the drafting, review, and management of legal contracts and documents.

At Baker Donelson, its part of our culture to understand and apply technology in providing more than what clients expect from a law firm.

ContractExpress is a document assembly solution for improving the profitability of fixed fee and other alternative fee arrangements. Used proactively, ContractExpress not only improves partner profitability, but wins new clients and retains existing clients by making possible the compelling combination of better service at lower cost.

Baker Donelson has identified several practice groups, including real estate, mergers & acquisitions, and labor and employment, for the initial deployment of their firm-wide license. These groups were chosen for their forward-thinking attitude toward new KM and technology resources, as well as being practices that lend themselves to the creation of document assembly projects. Another major reason for their participation is the availability of billable, working attorney credit.

Baker Donelson's KM Department implemented the working attorney credit program in 2004, and it has helped to grow acceptance of KM initiatives and projects over the past 7 years. Through this program, the KM department sets a budget for each project for each group, providing attorneys in the group with the opportunity to earn working attorney credit. This credit counts toward the attorney's billable requirements at year end. Attorneys for each project are chosen by the chair of the group, and they bill their time to a specially designated KM client/matter number. Meredith Williams, Baker Donelson’s Director of Knowledge Management reviews and approves time entries on a monthly basis.

In Today’s economy it’s mission critical to take advantage of advanced technology resources to bring efficiencies to the practice of law. “At Baker Donelson, it's part of our culture to understand and apply technology in providing more than what clients expect from a law firm. When fully integrated with our Sharepoint based intranet BakerNet, ContractExpress will provide our attorney’s with powerful workflow, approval and document automation system.” – John Green, Chief Information Officer.
