America 2049: A New Breed of Facebook Game

Newly released Facebook game America 2049 is unlike any other with a combination of the social network, Hollywood stars and custom-designed outside sources by Small and Mighty digital agency Inovāt.

The recently released Facebook game ‘America 2049’ has captured the attention of TIME, Fast Company, Wired.com, CNET, AOL and thousands of Facebook users. However, this game is no light-hearted Farmville, as it requires users to solve complex problems and make decisions about serious real-world issues today.

The groundbreaking game was created by global human rights organization Breakthrough, in collaboration with Inovāt, a small and mighty digital agency, to create America 2049 which unfolds in an immense 12-week episodic progression. While the Facebook App is the core of the game, Inovāt built numerous micro-sites for organizations represented in the game, forums that unlock with each level, and even a search engine that acts like it is from the future. Content for the massive game is managed by the client through a custom game management system built by Inovāt that controls the the 12 levels of the game and over 500 clues, puzzles and bonuses.

America 2049 is the first Facebook game to integrate the social network with such a wide variety of outside sources. The game, featuring popular T.V. series stars Victor Garber (Alias), Cherry Jones (24), Harold Perrineau (Lost), Anthony Rapp (Rent), and Margaret Cho (Notorious C.H.O.), is also the first Facebook game to utilize celebrities in game play. Combining these famous faces with Inovāt’s creative and technical execution, and the popular social network, ‘America 2049’ hopes to make issues of race and equality widespread among America’s younger generations.

Commenting on his interest in the project, Harold Perrineau stated, “You know, a lot of groups, they do great work by talking about the issues, or going places and building houses. But this is something completely different, a way to reach out to so many people.”
