The Military Writers Society of America (MWSA), together with the Center for the Study of the Korean War, Our History Project, and Positively Pittsburgh Live, has announced a special Korean War Book contest for 2011.

Compared to other wars, few books have focused on this brutal event. With this contest, we are hoping to encourage more veterans of the Korean War and more historians to write about this important and under-reported topic.

The contest, which includes a First Prize Cash Award of $150.00, is open to all authors who have written a book about the Korean War, whether fiction or non-fiction. Books may be published by traditional, subsidy, or self-publishers and in any format. There is no cut-off date regarding date of publication, the book must still be in print, either in bound or e-book format. MWSA officers and board members are not eligible to submit books for the award. Judging will be conducted by MWSA reviewers and entries must be submitted to MWSA by July 15, 2011. The winner will be announced on September 1, 2011, and the prize will be presented during the book awards ceremony at the 2011 MWSA conference in Pittsburgh, PA, September 29 - October 2, 2011. Details on how to submit a book for consideration to the contest are available on the MWSA website, http://www.militarywriters.com, under the "How to Submit" category in the Bookstore section of the Bookstore/Review link.

Joyce Faulkner, President of the Military Writers Society of America, says, "Compared to other wars, few books have focused on this brutal event. With this contest, we are hoping to encourage more veterans of the Korean War and more historians to write about this important and under-reported topic."

The Military Writers Society of America is an association of over 800 authors, poets, artists, and photographers whose core principle is a love of the men and women who defend this nation, and an understanding and respect of their sacrifice and dedication.
