I try to treat everyone fair
Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) May 11, 2011
Unique Home Solutions, central Indiana's home remodeling company, has been honored among Indianapolis' top places to work.
Ranked in the top five among midsize businesses by the Indianapolis Star's Top Workplaces survey, Unique Home Solutions has served more than 25,000 customers since the company was founded in 1983, and is proud to announce that its employees are as satisfied as its clients.
President Robert Dillon said he tries to keep his method of leadership simple.
"I try to treat everyone fair," Dillon said. "I try to give employees an ethical work environment and a job and position they can be proud of. And I try to compensate them well. Ethics and fairness are the two cornerstones that make everything worthwhile."
That attitude toward leadership has allowed Dillon to grow his business, which he bought in 1993 when it had only 11 employees. Despite the recession, Unique Home Solutions has continued to succeed as it serves the Indianapolis, Bloomington, Columbus, Marion, Kokomo, Lafayette and Terre Haute areas.
"The remodeling business is fairly consistent," Dillon said. "If you have the right kind of products and the right kind of payment plans, you can withstand most economic pressures."
Dillon believes in recognizing his employees, which is why the business has a Bonus Breakfast each month. The breakfast allows employees to bond over a meal and receive the latest company information. Those employees who have met their goals are honored with a plaque and a bonus check. Outstanding employees are also recognized at the annual Christmas party, when the employee of the year is announced for each department.
Unique Home Solution employees also get the opportunity to attend an annual fishing trip, and they receive various tokens of appreciation throughout the year, such as free pizza in bad weather.
This is all on top of employee benefits, an on-site gym, a flexible work schedule for administration staff, 401(K) and profit sharing.
Knowing how important it is for employees to feel invested in their company, Dillon offers the Employee Stock Ownership Plan. The President said he wants the culture that he has cultivated at his business to continue even after he retires, which is why he has been gradually transferring the ownership of the company to its employees, who now own one-third of the business.
At Unique Home Solutions, education is a priority. Every department within the company conducts training sessions weekly, sometimes more often. Employees are given full explanation of all of the company's procedures in terms of how and why they benefit the business and the employees, themselves.
For those employees on the leadership track, Dillon's business provides training and sometimes will pay for external training. Employees surveyed were appreciative of the "excellent potential for advancement" and the chance to "be successful" and "make a great living."
"From day one," one employee said, "the message is sent to us that the sky is the limit."
