National, regional and local jazz musicians will perform a series of events June 22 to 25, culminating in the 4th Annual Red Clay Jazz Festival concert at the outdoor setting, Lani Maile, Kauai Lagoons Resort. Formerly a one-day festival, this year's events have expanded to include Dinner Jazz" on June 22 and 23, and a "Meet the Artists" event on June 24 with local chefs and wine tasting. Saturday, June 25th, is the main jazz concert from 2:30 until 9 p.m., featuring headliner Hubert Laws in the Hubert Laws Quintet. Laws recently received the 2011 Jazz Masters' Award by the National Endowment of the Arts. Other guest artists include the Hailey Niswanger Quartet from Berklee College of Music, Phil and Angela Benoit of Maui and Kauai's Ne'ena Jazz Quartet. The Red Clay Jazz Festival will also provide a number of food and beverage choices offered by Kauai-based restaurants and chefs. Tickets are available through http://redclayjazz.org.
The first Red Clay Jazz Festival took place on Kauai in 2008, stemming from efforts by the Kauai Concert Association to bring jazz artists to Hawaii and to provide educational opportunities for local students. The Red Clay Jazz Festival is sponsored, in part, by the Hawaii Tourism Authority and Kauai County.
