Altico Advisors, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner specializing in Microsoft Dynamics GP, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, SharePoint, Business Intelligence, and Integration Services, joins Microsoft to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Microsoft Dynamics GP. In April of 2001, Microsoft made its first foray into the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) market by acquiring the Great Plains software company out of Fargo, North Dakota.

Since then, Microsoft has made further inroads into the ERP software market by acquiring 3 additional companies and incorporating them under the Microsoft Dynamics umbrella – Solomon (now Microsoft Dynamics SL), Navision (now Microsoft Dynamics NAV), and Axapta (now Microsoft Dynamics AX).

In his keynote address at Convergence 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Microsoft Business Solutions, Kirill Tatarinov, highlighted the strides that have been made in these last 10 years. Tatarinov noted that when Microsoft acquired Great Plains, there were fewer than 30,000 users of Great Plains software. Today, there are more than 350,000 companies running Dynamics GP, representing more than 5 million users.

“It’s not just the numbers that wow me,” says Mike Kean, President of Altico Advisors. “I worked with Great Plains long before it was purchased by Microsoft and continued to work with the solution after it was renamed Microsoft Dynamics GP. The growth in functionality and the exceptionally broad range of industries served by Microsoft Dynamics GP…that is truly impressive.”

“Mike is so right,” explains Rich Maloney, CEO of Altico Advisors. “Great Plains was primarily known as a superior accounting software package. Dynamics GP, on the other hand, offers full ERP functionality that includes manufacturing, distribution, supply chain and warehouse management, not to mention unparalleled reporting and analytics.”

Altico Advisors’ own roster of clients running Microsoft Dynamics GP is indicative of the broad range of industries that are now served – discrete and process manufacturers, wholesale distributors, medical device companies, software development companies, colleges, nonprofits, biotechs and pharmaceuticals, healthcare organizations, financial institutions, services and professional services providers, transportation and logistics companies, retailers, etailers, moving and storage companies, oil and gas companies, construction, publishing, HVAC, municipalities, supermarkets, aerospace, and more.
