With the help of Datum, students at the Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine now have a secure and organized storage system for their patient records (http://www.datumfiling.com).

The new system features doors that opened from top to bottom, allowing for easier access and less wear and tear.

“When we started this project we were out of room for more lockers. I was thrilled that Datum was able to manufacture a custom product for our application,” said Jerry Friel, Facilities Director.

The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine joined efforts with Datum to update their record storage system that was anything but user-friendly. Students used to file their confidential patient records in small lockers that lacked security and organization. By customizing an existing product, Datum created a whole new system that is tailored to meet the dental school’s exact needs.

The ThruStak™, a modified version of the TekStak™ storage system, provides a secure way for students to transfer patient files to and from the main file room. Built directly into the walls of the chart room, the ThruStak™ features over 500 openings with individual locking doors on the outside for student access. Each student is given their own locker, custom built to house the oversized folders of patient records. The open back design of the unit also provides for easy file sorting by the chart room staff.

Every aspect of the unit was designed to make the file transferring process more efficient. The new ThruStak™ system features doors that opened from top to bottom, allowing for easier access and reduced wear and tear on the unit. The drop down door design also takes up less space when opened than the previous system's side opening doors, allowing for multiple students to access their lockers side by side.

“When we started this project we were out of room for more lockers. I was thrilled that Datum was able to manufacture a custom product for our application,” said Jerry Friel, Facilities Director.

The Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine now has a locker room that any student would be excited to use. Most importantly, the ThruStak™ system allows dental students the opportunity to train in a facility where organization, security and efficiency are both taught and practiced.
