Each free screening will include a one-on-one dental exam to check teeth and gums and look for signs of oral cancer, free toothbrush and toothpaste, and an opportunity to have oral health questions answered. National Women's Health Week is a weeklong awareness campaign coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health. It brings together communities, businesses, government, health organizations, and other groups in an effort to promote women’s wellness. The dental school’s free screening program is one of a handful of National Women’s Health Week activities taking place in the Bay Area.

The Dugoni School of Dentistry’s vision is to lead the improvement of health by advancing oral health. By offering free oral health screenings, the school hopes to help women prioritize their dental health and understand the role good oral health plays in an overall state of wellness.

“We’re looking forward to offering free screenings and interacting with San Francisco Bay Area women who come to the clinic for a check-up on May 12,” said Dr. Richard Fredekind, associate dean for clinical services. “A dental screening is an important part of a health check-up, and National Women’s Health Week is a great time to make oral health a top concern.”
