Pyxis Mobile, provider of the only cross-device mobile application development platform designed to meet customers’ constantly changing needs, announced today that the company’s platform now offers support for RIM’s newly released mobile tablet, the BlackBerry PlayBook. Pyxis Mobile will debut its increased Configure Once, Run Anywhere™ capability at this week’s BlackBerry World conference in Orlando, Fla. Onsite, attendees can view mobile applications built using the company’s agile mobile application development platform on the PlayBook, as well as all other leading smartphones and tablets.
“There’s no question that a growing number of enterprises have incorporated tablets into their enterprise mobility strategies,” said Todd Christy, President and CTO of Pyxis Mobile. “As the tablet market continues to mature, companies are exploring their options and realizing that the market is providing a wider selection of devices. With so many companies already heavily invested in the BlackBerry infrastructure, we expect to see many of our customers putting RIM’s new tablet into the hands of their mobile workforce as a way of complying with corporate standards.”
In order to provide customers with the ability to build and deploy native applications for the BlackBerry PlayBook, Pyxis Mobile increased their platform’s capabilities to support WebWorks, an HTML5 client that runs on RIM’s QNX operating system. By adding support for this HTML5 client, users can now develop rich, highly interactive applications that run both as native smartphone applications and browser-based applications, sharing the same features and functionalities across devices. Customers will have access to many of the BlackBerry PlayBook’s native device capabilities, such as accelerometer, phone, GPS location and more.
“With our increased tablet capabilities, customers can now quickly and easily build, deploy and manage fully customized, native applications for whichever mobile device they choose, making us the only true cross-device mobile application development platform,” said Christy. “We’re always thinking about the direction that the market is headed and what our customers will be demanding, and it’s absolutely critical that we continue to enhance our platform’s capabilities in order stay ahead of the curve.”
Pyxis Mobile will be in booth No. 328 at BlackBerry World in Orlando, Fla., May 2-4, 2011.
