New Orleans boot camp owner, Jonas Deffes, is listed as one of the top 100 fitness entrepreneurs in the industry. He owes his success of New Orleans Adventure Boot Camp to resiliency in growing his business model in a new direction after Hurricane Katrina. recently compiled a list of the top 100 fitness entrepreneurs in the industry, highlighting the individuals who have made an impact on the world of fitness, sports and health. In 2005, Mr. Deffes was running a successful fitness business in a brick and mortar establishment. When Hurricane Katrina hit, he lost everything. Since that time he has built a new, highly successful business once again in New Orleans - a Hurricane Katrina success story.

Deffes says, “In New Orleans in 2003, I opened my first pain therapy clinic to help people with chronic and acute pain from sports and fitness injuries. I quickly found out that people had a further need to get in shape after they were pain free. However, my clinics were destroyed by hurricane Katrina; thus, I began my New Orleans boot camp business. “

What makes Mr. Deffes’s business different from others in the industry is the fact that it is run entirely outside and not in a gym via online sales. Clients learn about the fitness programs through the website, register for a boot camp, and then meet with their trainer and other boot-campers at the specified location on the day of the boot camp.

When asked about his success, Mr. Deffes said, “In 2005 I lost my business to the hurricane and moved back to New Orleans in 2007. Deffes comments, “Our boot camps are done outside. We focus on utilizing green spaces, which allows for a completely different environmental aspect when working out. There is nothing more energizing then seeing the sun rise every morning. It seriously is the best way to start the day.”

The program also offers support in the weight loss and fitness goals outside of the boot camp sessions.
