National Geographic Traveler editors have chosen Muskoka, Ontario as the number one pick on their list of “Ten Best Trips of Summer 2011.” Featured in the National Geographic Traveler Magazine, Muskoka, Ontario was “handpicked” by National Geographic Traveler editors as their choice for the best summer travel destination for those looking for an “out-of-the-ordinary” summer vacation area. By receiving this highly coveted recommendation by one of the most popular and respected travel publications in the world, the Muskoka region will receive outstanding international exposure and favourable publicity that will greatly benefit Muskoka tourism and area businesses, especially Muskoka resorts. Michael Piraino, owner of Northridge Inn & Resort (, a full service all-season resort on Lake Bernard in North Muskoka, is encouraged to see Muskoka getting the international recognition that it deserves. “This is the kind of publicity that Muskoka needs. It will be great for tourism in Muskoka,” states Piraino.

National Geographic Traveler Magazine, the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership and Muskoka Tourism, a membership association of Muskoka area businesses, have entered into an advertising agreement that will showcase a selection of Ontario travel destinations, including Muskoka. Muskoka Tourism has purchased a one page ad in the May/June, July/August and the fall issues of National Geographic Traveler Magazine. As well, Muskoka has purchased a one page ad in the National Geographic’s Food Journeys of a Lifetime publication. Editorial support from National Geographic Traveler will include an eight page Ontario feature in the July/August and the fall issues of Food Journeys. It is estimated by National Geographic that these projects will produce 17.7 million impressions in their print publications. Later this summer, Muskoka and other Ontario partners will host National Geographic’s “digital nomad” Andrew Evans, giving Muskoka extensive online exposure. An additional 15 million impressions is expected to be generated through Andrew Evan’s online editorials, titter feeds and banner ads.

Muskoka is a beautiful Ontario resort area offering large clear lakes, majestic outcroppings of granite and towering pines. With the publicity generated via National Geographic Traveler Magazine, Muskoka is certain to become better known through the world. For Muskoka resort owners, businesses and tourist operators, the economic benefits that maybe realized can’t be understated,” says Muskoka resort owner Piraino.
