Shrek is sure to charm both children and adults alike and is certainly an exciting addition to our theatre breaks programme.

Superbreak, the London theatre breaks provider, has announced the exciting new addition of Shrek to its already extensive theatre break programme. The stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animation bursts onto the stage on the 6th May 2011 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The Yorkshire based tour operator has secured a range of budget to top price theatre tickets and is confident that the show will draw families into London this summer for a fun-filled theatre break. The shows expected appeal stems from the popularity of family theatre shows such as the Lion King, which has seen a 27% growth in sales for this year alone.
As a market leader in providing weekend theatre breaks, Superbreak has reported a 19% year on year growth in the number of theatre bookings for 2011. The success of this sector of the business can be largely attributed to the flexibility of Superbreak’s theatre breaks, where customers can choose from an extensive range of both matinee and evening West End theatre tickets and combine with over 250+ London hotels spanning right across the capital from budget Travelodge’s to luxury accommodation. As with all Superbreak theatre breaks, customers can tailor make their break to suit their budget requirements and through the addition of added value extras, including sightseeing tickets, Oyster Cards and return rail travel, customers can really make the most out of their London break.
Last year, over 40,000 passengers travelled with the tour operator on a London theatre break and sales for 2011 are already strong with best sellers including the Lion King and Billy Elliot. What’s more, the number of exciting new additions to the programme this year, such as the Wizard of Oz, are already proving to be a big hit for the company and Superbreak expect the new addition of Shrek the Musical to continue this success.
David Thomas, Head of Theatre at Superbreak, commented: “Shrek is sure to charm both children and adults alike and is certainly an exciting addition to our theatre breaks programme. These great new additions to the West End are proving to be immensely popular, as we’ve previously seen with the Lion King and the Wizard of Oz, and I’m confident this will be another great addition to London’s theatreland”.
The Theatre Royal Drury Lane will be home to Shrek the Musical, a stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animation, until February 2012. This musical follows the life of a huge green ogre and his trusty loyal steed, as they set off on a quest in a land far, far away to rescue a beautiful princess from a dragon guarded tower. The all star cast includes Nigel Lindsay, Amanda Holden, Richard Blackwood and Nigel Harman.
