Our integrative cancer care resources educate and empower toward optimal cancer care. We hope people will unite with us at the Kaiser Permanente Colfax events in Denver to raise money for EmbodiWorks.
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) May 04, 2011
On May 14, 2011 at Denver’s City Park for the Kaiser Permanente Colfax 5K, a team will run and raise funds for the EmbodiWorks integrative cancer care resources non-profit organization.
EmbodiWorks unites with the Kaiser Permanente Colfax 5K to raise funding for integrative cancer care resources provided through their educational website. Beyond the $30 registration fee for the 5K on May 14, additional funds raised through participants who sign up with EmbodiWorks go directly to their non-profit organization. People can seek pledges and recruit other runners. On May 15, the Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon will also occur. Runners can participate in the marathon registered with EmbodiWorks, but there is not an organized EmbodiWorks team for the marathon.
Triathlete and personal trainer Kris Skiles will lead the EmbodiWorks team in pre-race warm-ups and stretching at the 5K on May 14. The team will run the 5K together in groups or runners can participate at their own pace.
Studies indicate that over 80 percent of people with cancer use complementary and alternative medicine modalities. People affected by cancer need reliable integrative cancer care resources supporting the whole person. Through an educational website, EmbodiWorks provides cancer information toward the full spectrum of needs in cancer patients.
“When I helped my sister Linda Starck dealing with advanced lung cancer, I searched countless online cancer resources. Along with the conventional cancer treatments she was receiving, Linda needed help in finding more effective treatments and supportive care for other aspects of her health and life. What I found was a confusing lineup of treatments, philosophies, products, and approaches. Ultimately, I was not able to find the help I was seeking. That is how we realized the need for EmbodiWorks,” explains Joyce Wolfkiel, co-founder of EmbodiWorks and Board of Directors President.
National Cancer Institute statistics indicate that nearly one in two American men and women will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. New cancer care models are needed to reduce cancer rates and save lives.
Studies show that integrative cancer care reduces cancer risk, improves cancer-related survival, and quality of life. Addressing more than the diagnosis and symptoms, integrative cancer care supports the entire physical body such as with a cancer diet, mental and emotional balance, spiritual connections, social support, and a clean environment.
“Our integrative cancer care resources educate and empower toward optimal cancer care. We hope people will unite with us at the Kaiser Permanente Colfax events in Denver to raise money for EmbodiWorks,” says Laura Gill of the EmbodiWorks Board of Directors.
