Enlighten Us, But Make It Quick -- International Ignite Series Coming to Hampton Roads on June 30, 2011

Ignite is an international grassroots effort to rejuvenate creative thought and entrepreneurial passions for local economies around the world. The organizers of Ignite Hampton Roads invite the public to use the unique forum as an opportunity for geeks, designers, technologists, thinkers and hipsters to showcase ideas for innovation, entrepreneurship, and community interest.

The first Ignite Hampton Roads will be held on June 30th, 2011, at The Little Theater of Norfolk in West Ghent. Doors will open at 6pm and the event will run from 7pm to 9pm. The organizers of Ignite Hampton Roads, a handful of local start-ups and entrepreneurs, fully believe the region has the talent, diversity and entrepreneurial spirit to create a successful future. This is especially important in light of recent media articles announcing the impending "brain drain" in the Hampton Roads region. Unlike similar events, Ignite Hampton Roads is free to attend and open to the public, thanks to local sponsorship and support of like-minded organizations.

Ignite is a fun night of inspiring presentations on a variety of topics, with a twist. Each presentation has 20 slides that automatically advance after 15 seconds. It is a worldwide movement originally conceived as technology variety shows, but they have grown into much more than that. Ignite is about ideas. Ideas can change the world. And it takes less than five minutes to spread one. Anyone familiar with SXSW or TED will immediately appreciate the Ignite concept. In fact, Ignite events are frequently becoming part of larger technology conferences around the world.

Every Ignite presenter is deeply passionate about their topic. Some are speaking in public for the first time. But anyone can talk for 5 minutes and audiences are very supportive. Each Ignite will showcase 16 presentations.

Do you have something to share? Proposals are being accepted now at http://www.ignite-hr.org. The Ignite series is starting in Norfolk, but additional events will be held throughout the year in various Hampton Roads cities.
