BitNami, which simplifies the process of deploying web applications natively, virtually and in the cloud, announced that it will provide the BitNami library of popular open source applications as cartridges for Red Hat OpenShift, a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering for developers who build on open source that was announced today at the Red Hat Summit in Boston.
OpenShift provides ready-to-run resources at each level of the stack, from the operating system to the application layer, to enable developers to quickly assemble leading components upon which they can develop and deploy their applications. With OpenShift, developers have a choice of frameworks, languages, APIs and infrastructure clouds upon which they want their application to run. It also provides built-in monitoring and auto-scaling to simplify the management of applications once they are deployed. A free version of the platform is available, with paid options coming soon.
"We are delighted to make the BitNami application library available as cartridges for Red Hat's new OpenShift platform," said Erica Brescia, CEO of BitRock, the developer of BitNami. "By providing developers with their favorite open source applications and frameworks as OpenShift cartridges, BitNami speeds the process of assembling their environment so they can be productive.”
“The Red Hat OpenShift platform provides a new level of choice to the PaaS market that builds on Red Hat’s open source leadership,” said Sarangan Rangachari, senior director, Cloud Ecosystem at Red Hat. “We’re excited to welcome BitRock to our expanding cloud ecosystem.”
