Since medications often provide minimal or time-sensitive pain relief, chiropractic treatment has been a sought after alternative form of care that delivers positive, long-lasting results without the use of medications.

Headaches account for over ten million doctor visits each year in the United States, and are one of the most common reasons for absence from work or school. It is abnormal to have chronic or daily reoccurring headaches, yet many people will suffer through this with the help of pain relievers.
Two common types of headaches are migraines and tension headaches.
Migraines are defined as a debilitating condition and can include symptoms such as severe headaches, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. Migraines and headaches can result from numerous different sources and have many triggers such as stress, diet, and misalignment of the spine.
Tension-type headaches occur in 88% of women and 69% of men. This specific condition is characterized by bilateral to moderate pain and pressure that is described as similar to that of having “a vise around the head.” These painful headaches are caused by tension of the neck muscles and can result from forward head posture.
Both tension-type headaches and migraines can result from misalignments of the spine. Chiropractic refers to these spinal misalignments as subluxations, which cause nerve interference in the body. Subluxations can occur from a variety of different causes such as automobile accidents, repetitive movements, poor posture, poor ergonomics or lack of exercise. Dr. Jacobs can help identify the triggers and directly treat the cause of the headaches as well as provide advice for stress release, stretches and relaxation exercises, posture and ergonomic recommendations.
As reported by P.J. Tuchin, H. Pollard and R. Bonello (2003) in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, a randomized controlled trial of chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy for migraine demonstrated migraine sufferers who received chiropractic care reported a decreased frequency and intensity of the migraines. They had less disability and use of medication. 50% percent reported more than a 90% reduction in migraines after two months of care; 80% reported significant improvement in severity of migraine episodes.
Dr. Adam Jacobs uses a unique combination of Active Release Technique and chiropractic spinal adjustments to help relieve pain from headaches and migraines, and it has been his experience that the combination of ART and chiropractic can help eliminate even the worse and most chronic headaches. The Active Release Technique focuses on relieving tension in the muscles that may be chronically tight and contributing to headaches and migraines. Dr. Jacobs uses Active Release Technique to target the muscles which are pulling the spine out of alignment and compressing the nerves and blood supply to the head which result in the migraines and headaches. The spinal adjustment is used to restore balance in the spine by putting the vertebrae that is out of alignment back in its normal position.
Since medications often provide minimal or time-sensitive pain relief, chiropractic treatment has been a sought after alternative form of care that delivers positive, long-lasting results without the use of medications. Dr. Jacobs will provide extensive complementary consultation and perform spinal adjustments in order to relieve pain and symptoms associated with migraines. “I have been seeing Dr. Jacobs for a few months. I used to have migraines and headaches at least once a week. Thanks to Dr. Jacob's treatment, I no longer suffer from headaches... but I still see him as a preventive treatment. His new place, SF Custom Chiropractic is amazing, the staff is super nice, and they are always able to see me whenever I need them.”
