Lisa Hicks, Internet Marketing Strategist at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, was invited to speak to students at NC State University about careers in writing and communication. The event was held on March 29 at 4:30 p.m.

She spoke with approximately 20 students enrolled in ENG 350 – Internship in Writing and Editing. Heather Gills, manager of communications and operations, NC Lung Cancer Partnership and Rev. Dr. Fay Buchanan, founder and president, Stop Hunger Now, also made presentations about transforming a communications’ degree into a rewarding career.

“As an alumnae of NC State University, I was excited about the opportunity to speak with other budding marketing and communication professionals about opportunities in the field,” Lisa Hicks said.

The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin has sponsored numerous interns who have been enrolled in the class, one of whom is now a full-time paralegal with the firm.

“We appreciate how much support the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin has given to our internship program over the years by providing opportunities for students to learn about an aspect of marketing that may not have been familiar to them,” said Susan Katz, head of the NC State University (NCSU) English Department’s Internship Program, and an English professor at the school.

Lisa Hicks is an alumna of NC State University, from which she obtained her Master of Science in Communication. She did not always plan to be a marketing professional. Rather, she attended Meredith College as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow with the intention of becoming a music instructor. She graduated from Meredith College in 2002 with a BS in Music with a concentration in music education. Following graduation, she obtained a position as Director of Choral and Musical Theater at West Johnston High School in Benson, NC.

Lisa Hicks decided her ultimate goals was to become an artist in repertoire at a music company, a goal which required her to broaden her education. So she enrolled at NC State University, obtaining her master of science in communication in 2006. During her time at NC State University, she worked as both a graduate assistant for communication and technology, as well as an instructor of public speaking.

While at NCSU, she became interested in the field of Internet communication and marketing. She worked as a marketing professional at both US Networks and Perimeter eSecurity before accepting her current position at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin.
