Savannah area photographer, Scott Kublin, has another credential to add to his collection. This time, he took home 1st place in the PhotoShop Guru Awards for his entry entitled "Big Ben Sunset".
The Guru Awards were created to honor and recognize the design, photography, retouching, and creativity of PhotoShop World conference attendees. Since their humble beginnings in 1999, the Guru Awards have now become the most prestigious and coveted awards in the international digital imaging industry.
Two weeks prior to attending the PhotoShop World conference in Orlando, Florida, Scott was notified that his entry was selected as one of three finalists in the "Photo Retouching" category. Scott was given early admission access to the opening Keynote so he could reserve a seat towards the front should his entry be selected as the winner.
"I was nervous throughout the entire opening Keynote", said Scott. "I didn't realize how many people would be in attendance for this event and was shocked when I looked behind where I was sitting and saw well over 1,000 people being seated."
When it came time to announce the winner, Scott was pleasantly surprised to hear his name called out. Scott said "I felt confident that the photo I entered had turned out great, but wasn't expecting to win. I was competing against people from all of the world, and didn't think the 3 plus years I'd been using PhotoShop would hold merit to the other finalists."
When Scott's name was announced, he got to go up on stage and accept his trophy from NAPP's Executive Director, Larry Becker. Scott was also awarded with a $500 gift card from B&H Photo. "It felt great to win an award for doing something that I really enjoy," said Scott.
When asked what he planned to buy with the $500 gift card to B & H Photo, Scott replied, "Do you really think I haven't used that up already?" "I had that spent within a day of returning home."
