On May 7, 1975, President Gerald R. Ford officially announced that the Vietnam Era had ended. From 1964 through 1975, 8,744,000 active duty U.S. military personnel served during the war, with 2,594,000 serving within the borders of South Vietnam.

The VetFriends.com Vietnam Veteran photo remembrance page is made up of authentic Vietnam Era pictures submitted by U.S. veterans, active military, family and friends. Pictures include service buddies laughing side by side, brothers and sisters in arms proudly wearing the uniform, military class photos, heroes carrying the U.S. flag and many other powerful images.
Visitors can search for images by specific military branch, year, war, state and country. Each picture contains background information along with a brief message or description. Additionally, images can be viewed in a larger format for enhanced clarity.
After reuniting with a Vietnam service buddy through the photo collection, veteran K. David Herbert writes to VetFriends.com:
"A couple of months after posting my photo, I received an e-mail from VetFriends saying someone was trying to get in touch with me. The VetFriends.com Casualty Memorial is sourced by the federal National Archives, and allows visitors to search by first and last name, state, military branch and war to view memorial pages of service men and women spanning back to the Korean War. Each listing contains the soldier's date of birth, hometown, military branch of service, along with the date and location of his or her death.
Family and friends can submit bio information, personal notes, along with a collection of photos in honor of their fallen soldiers. With Memorial Day approaching, VetFriends encourages all to visit the Memorial to honor and give thanks to U.S. veterans and active soldiers.
