I have a very close family member affected with autism
Melbourne, FL (PRWEB) May 06, 2011
Board certified plastic surgeon Roxanne J. Guy, M.D., F.A.C.S. will be competing in the fifth season of “Dancing with Brevard” on May 14, 2011. This event is put on by the KLD Youth Foundation – a private school that provides “At Risk” and “Special Needs” students the opportunity to lead a rewarding life. Having heard of the event in the past, Dr. Guy decided to learn more after watching a video on the KLD website that touched her. “I have a very close family member affected with autism,” Dr. Guy states. This largely impacted her decision to participate in the dance competition.
Excited to be back on the dance floor after 22 years, Dr. Guy is a newcomer to “Dancing with Brevard.” When she moved to Florida, she and her husband took ballroom dancing lessons with Brad Stein. He is a professional dancer who has won numerous awards, including World Champion. Now, coming full circle, Stein will be her partner for the competition. “I love to dance and I thought this would be fun and exciting,” said Dr. Guy, who has been in the dance studio rehearsing since January.
The choreographed piece, which is now complete, will account for 40 percent of Dr. Guy’s final score, with 60 percent coming from donations made to KLD in her name. Along with purchasing tickets to the event and sponsoring tables to raise funds, a 50/50 raffle is being held at Dr. Guy’s practice. Each ticket is being sold for $100 and the winner will take home half of what is raised with the raffle, while the other half goes to the foundation. In the end, all donations will go to help the KLD students – either in educational materials or in overall school funding.
People can vote one of three ways on http://dancingwithbrevard.org: giving a donation, buying tickets for the event, or purchasing a table for the event and dinner. Individuals can get started by heading over to the Vote/Donate section online and selecting their preferred method under Dr. Guy’s name. Additionally, those who are interested in participating in the 50/50 raffle may send a check (made out to KLD Youth Foundation) or visit Dr. Guy’s practice and personally deliver it to personnel. The raffle drawing will be held on May 7, 2011 at Dr. Guy’s practice (111 East Hibiscus Blvd. Melbourne, Fl 32901); if you do not receive your ticket in time, your stub will still be in the raffle and the winner will be notified.
This year’s “Dancing with Brevard” event will be held at Rosen Shingle Creek Resort and Golf Center in Orlando, FL. Cocktails start at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. Dr. Guy can be contacted via her Melbourne plastic surgery practice.
