50 Titans of Design “classic works by the trailblazers, past and present, who shaped the form and spirit of Southern California”
Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) May 09, 2011
Sally Sirkin Lewis, president and founder of J. Robert Scott is recognized as one of the 50 Titans of Design by the Los Angeles Times. The May 1st edition of the Los Angeles Times Magazine selected “classic works by the trailblazers, past and present, who shaped the form and spirit of Southern California”. Ms. Lewis is in the company of design giants from architecture such as Schindler, Lautner, Neutra, Gehry, and legendary furniture designers like Charles & Ray Eames, Maloof, and Frankl.
To exemplify Ms. Lewis’ design style, The Los Angeles Times selected a Louis XVI Fauteuil which, as interpreted by the designer in 1978, was upholstered in zebra skin. As the first woman to open a showroom on Melrose Avenue in the design district in 1972, Ms. Lewis has continually evolved her design ethos, and challenged the standards of furniture manufacturing. Most recently Ms. Lewis developed a revolutionary finishing process which she named Ombré, a proprietary technique that captures the gradient effect of color in textiles, and translates the concept to wood veneers. Sally Sirkin Lewis, like the visionary counterparts listed in the L.A. Times feature, continues to inspire the design community, and many others who simply appreciate beauty.
