The U.S. Travel Association is holding National Travel and Tourism Week from May 7-15, 2011. It includes five days of activities designed to highlight the importance of travel to both national and local economy.

In recognition of this week, the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau has created a two-minute video spotlighting the Orange County travel industry. In this casual and fun film you’ll see the faces of the OC tourism industry from sword fighting knights to golfers and pilots expressing why Travel Matters to them.

Anaheim and Orange County’s visitor industry impacts millions of people annually. More than 42 million people traveled to Anaheim and Orange County in 2010 and spent $7.4 billion on goods and services throughout the county.

Visitors come from as close as Los Angeles and San Diego, CA to as far as Auckland, NZ for family vacations, quick getaways, meetings, conventions, trade shows and special events. Their impact infuses billions of dollars into the local economy and employs more than 160,000 people in tourism-related jobs in Orange County alone.

“Most people don’t realize that if you’re a waiter, taxi driver or selling the latest fashion, you’re a part of the tourism industry. Visitors spend money on transportation, dining, shopping and entertainment and their presence helps keep businesses successful,” noted Charles Ahlers, president of the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau.

National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) was first established in 1984 to champion the power of travel through localized events. This year, NTTW will take place in destinations throughout the country from May 7-15, 2011. A key component of NTTW is Travel Rally Day, taking place on Tuesday, May 10, which brings together travel workers from all sectors to highlight travel's value as an economic force and job creator that supports local communities and provides jobs to more than 10 million American workers.
