Author Aletha Kuenstler describes this book as a guide with multiple tools and methods to empower a person to manage their chronic illness and to grow spiritually. Kuenstler lives with several chronic illnesses and was given less than six months to live in her early thirties. She is currently living life to its fullest at 63 and testifies to God’s sustaining strength in the face of each new challenge.

Chronic Illness: Facing Its Challenges encourages people living with chronic illness to develop a journal and a support system to serve as reminders of how God has personally met their needs every step of the way. Readers are given a series of thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter and, by journaling these answers, participants will have a record of what they have learned. Chronic Illness: Facing Its Challenges also includes invaluable information including how to determine an accurate diagnosis and how to get organized for appointments with physicians, in addition to how to deal with suffering and body image changes.

In addition to being a social worker, she has a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and a master’s in nursing from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
