At Music Hack Day, Lollapalooza Debuts API and Announces HackLolla, An Open Data Application Challenge for Developers

Winning apps from month-long contest will be shared with the Lollapalooza audience; Grand Prize-winning developer will win flight, hotel, and VIP tickets to Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza, one of the world’s biggest international music festivals, is debuting its HackLolla challenge to developers attending the Music Hack Day in San Francisco this weekend. HackLolla opens up the festival’s data for the first time with a multi-faceted API. The festival invites software developers and fans worldwide to create apps that enhance the Lollapalooza experience. HackLolla is an open challenge that will reward the best implemented, most creative and most impactful web and mobile apps.

HackLolla is a sponsor of Music Hack Day and will be presenting details about the challenge in San Francisco over the weekend. Developers can get started with the API immediately, and the HackLolla presentation can be viewed Sunday afternoon on the Music Hack Day livestream at http://sf.musichackday.org/2011/.

Residents of both the U.S. and Canada are encouraged to participate and will have until June 24, 2011, to leverage the Lollapalooza API and pull detailed real-time data about the festival's artists, schedule, and more.

The two winning apps, a Grand Prize winner and People’s Choice winner, will be publicized to the entire Lollapalooza fan base and attendees, and the winning developers will each receive 2 VIP passes to Lollapalooza. The Grand Prize winner will also receive airfare and hotel accommodations for Lollapalooza.

HackLolla is powered and managed by ChallengePost, a global marketplace for challenges and community-driven innovation, and the Lollapalooza API is provided by DoStuff Media, Lollapalooza’s web platform partner. Featured API Partners for the HackLolla contest include Soundcloud, The Echo Nest, and Songkick.

In 2011 at its home in the Windy City, Lollapalooza will bring alumni and worthy newcomers together for three rollicking days, August 5-7, to celebrate the festival’s 20th Anniversary edition. This year it is led by Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Muse, My Morning Jacket, deadmau5, A Perfect Circle, Cee Lo Green, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley & Nas, The Cars and Ween.
