Waterville Valley Resort's Memorial Day kick-off to the summer season will offer lots of events and activities for the whole family. The 22nd Annual Chowder & Microbrew Fest, Sunday, May 29, 2011. The Brews will be available from 12pm – 5pm, and tickets will go on sale for the Chowderfest at 12pm and close at 2pm, or whenever chowder runs out! Get there early to see and taste as restaurants serve up their chowders in the Town Square with the best winning the “Golden Clam Award.” Admission offers guests ample-sized tastes of each chowder and a ballot to vote for their favorite concoction. And, this year’s microbrew fest will bring in the local brewer Smuttynose and will let guests taste some of New Hampshire’s finest summer ales in the brew tent. Live rock and reggae music will be fun for the whole family for this event.
The day before, on Saturday May 28, 2011 from 8 to 11 a.m., the Youth Fishing Derby lets the kids experience and learn about 'catch & release' and life in Corcoran's Pond, with prizes awarded across age groups. All entrants get a t-shirt and cup of bait. Sponsored by the Waterville Valley Recreation Department & Public Safety Department. After the awards, stay in Town Square for some Wiggly Worm games and contests for the whole family, as well as a band!
The town docks will open for the season with canoe, kayak and paddleboat rental as well.
The Town of Waterville Valley Departments of Public Safety & Recreation will present a Youth Fishing Derby, on Saturday May 28, 2011.
The event, for kids up to 15 years of age, will take place over Memorial Day Weekend on the Shores of Corcoran’s Pond from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. with staggered starting times by age group. All contestants who pre-register will have only a $5 registration fee (instead of $7) that includes starter bait and a t-shirt (t-shirts go to the first 100 registrants). Additional bait is available for purchase at Jugtown Country Store in the Town Square. Waterville Valley Resort promotes catch & release.
Presented with support from Waterville Valley Town Square, The Margret & H.A. Rey Center, Trout Unlimited and White Mountain Adventures, prizes will include rod and reel combos, a tent and sleeping bag, a youth bike and a kayak/paddle as a grand prize. There will be live music, a Cash BBQ, “Life in the Pond” presentation, and awards ceremony follows in the Town Square. And, explore pond life with The Margret & H.A. Rey Center in Town Square, 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
The Start times are: Ages 7 & Under: 8 a.m. start; Ages 8 – 11: 8:30 a.m. start; Ages 12 – 15: 9 a.m. start.
