"St. Barth and Lake Como are two of the most beautiful travel destinations in the world, which is why it’s a natural extension for us to create a new property in Lake Como," says Luis Contreras, owner of Il Sereno.
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 10, 2011
Long a favorite destination for the world’s most selective travelers, Lake Como will soon see the addition of its most stylish accommodations to date with the opening of Il Sereno, Lago di Como, scheduled for completion in 2013. Located on prime lakefront property near the village of Torno, the hotel is just a few minutes-drive from the city of Como and less than 40 miles from the Milano-Malpensa airport. Il Sereno, Lago di Como will be positioned as the most stylish and private sanctuary among the lake’s select group of hotels.
The design team for Il Sereno, Lago di Como will be helmed by famed Parisian designer Christian Liaigre along with a group of leading architects, landscape artists and interior designers all with the goal of creating a chic and unassumingly stylish hotel synonymous with the Sereno name. Mr. Liaigre is one of the most recognized names in design today, described by the Financial Times as “possibly the most important –certainly the most copied – designer of our time. Reflecting its sister property in St. Barth, Il Sereno, Lago di Como will be an intimate property with around 30 oversized rooms, all boasting waterfront views and the extraordinary attention to design, detail and service.
“We are thrilled to be working on a second Sereno property in the iconic destination of Lake Como,” says Luis Contreras, owner of Il Sereno. “St. Barth and Lake Como are two of the most beautiful travel destinations in the world, which is why it’s a natural extension for us to create a new property in Lake Como.” He continues, “As in St. Barth, we will base the design concept around the local landscape and customs while keeping intact the elements that guests expect from the Sereno name.”
With the design process underway, the Il Sereno team will take inspiration from Lake Como’s culture, lifestyle and the history of the region. The rooms will be designed in a such a way that they bring to life a quote from ancient Roman times when Pliny the Younger said he could fish in the lake from the window of his room “almost from his bed.” Taking full advantage of the waterfront location, the hotel will incorporate naval features including a floating pool suspended over the lake and boat docking facilities to encourage naval transportation to explore the lake region. Noting Lake Como’s rich heritage in the silk industry, Il Sereno’s accoutrements will include touches of silk tapestries and accessories and special attention will be paid to the scenic natural and manmade landscape surrounding the property.
Overlooking the waters of Lake Como, the hotel’s signature restaurant will offer cuisine centered on fresh regional produce served in an elegant yet relaxed indoor/outdoor environment. Il Sereno guests can also expect a full-service spa.
