PrivacyChoice Builds Transparency through Verification

New program improves tracking-company transparency for web users, websites and advertisers.

PrivacyChoice, the leading source of information and tools for online tracking privacy, has announced that ten leading ad companies have verified their information in the PrivacyChoice Tracker List. The new verification program, launched earlier this week, enables companies to confirm the domains and collection methods they use for online tracking. This gives web users, advertisers and websites more transparency into third-party data collection, and supports more effective self-regulation.

Companies with verified listings now include AdMeld, Adnologies, Batanga, Bizo, Buysight, C3 Metrics, Infectious Media, Magnetic, MediaMind and RadiumOne.

“Verified listings take some of the mystery out of online tracking,” said Jim Brock, PrivacyChoice Founder and former Yahoo! senior executive. “By stepping up to verify their listings, tracking companies demonstrate leadership and accountability when it comes to online privacy and choice.”

Launched in 2009, the Tracker List was the first public index of the ad targeting ecosystem, and now includes detailed information for over 400 companies. The dataset includes company names, descriptions, logos, business classifications, tracking methods, trade group and oversight affiliations, opt-out details, Do-Not-Track adoption, and privacy policy summaries.

The Tracker List powers PrivacyChoice tools for consumers and websites at privacychoice.org, as well as choice platforms offered by Reputation.com and DoubleVerify, among others. PrivacyChoice also licenses Tracker List data via API, enabling websites and application providers to build privacy experiences based on the most comprehensive and current industry information available.

There is no charge to participate in the verification program. As an incentive, companies with verified listings will receive email alerts when PrivacyChoice detects issues with their opt-out process. PrivacyChoice continuously monitors hundreds of opt-out processes through automated and panel-based testing.
