Entertainment Experience, a leader in digital color technology, today announced that Rod Heckaman, the company’s Color R&D Director and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) associate professor, will present, “Rendering Digital Cinema and Broadcast-TV Content to Wide-Gamut Display Media”, at SID Display Week 2011. The presentation is scheduled for May 17, 2011, at 3:40pm, in the Los Angeles Convention Center, Room 403B.

Much more is possible in achieving brighter, more vibrant colors for a richer visual experience in emerging, wide-gamut display media. Yet, both digital cinema and broadcast TV content fall well short of this promise. In this presentation, Mr. Heckaman will provide the means for realizing higher color video quality by identifying certain memory colors (e.g., green grass, reds, and blue sky) and rendering each independently making use of the full gamut of the display media while identifying and maintaining flesh tones. Also, he will discuss how adjustments to the white point of the display impacts the gamut of not just wide-gamut, but any display media.

"Our research at RIT has shown that human vision is highly sensitive to changes in memory colors. Viewer reaction can be quite negative if these colors do not look accurate and real”, said Rod Heckaman, Color R&D Director, Entertainment Experience. "Visual modeling technology is now available to take advantage of the increased color capability of displays and projectors while maintaining memory colors to achieve the highest video quality.”

Initially being introduced into the home theater market, eeColor dramatically improves the contrast, brightness and color of any television or video display device without changing the artistic look of the media or memory colors like flesh tones and blue skies.
