ON World’s recently published report covers the top seven Smart Energy Network markets that promote energy savings, greener lifestyles, and energy independence.

Fueled by aggressive carbon emission targets and rising energy costs, the Smart Energy Network (SEN) ecosystem will increase by 570% over the next decade, according to a recently published report by ON World. In 2020, annual revenues will reach $97 billion for the top seven SEN markets, up from $17 billion in 2010.

Smart Energy Networks integrate sensing and control communications within energy consumption, generation and management devices and systems. Although the majority of these networks will be part of the Smart Grid, some operate independently such as certain implementations of renewable energy sources as well as many home and building energy management systems.

“Advances with sensor networking, mobile computing, and cloud services are converging with the latest energy innovations such as smart meters to create the Smart Energy Network ecosystem,” says Mareca Hatler, ON World’s research director. “While much of the focus has been on advanced metering infrastructure and the home area network, there are several growing markets that are gaining synergistic benefits from this emerging ecosystem.”

Examples of Smart Energy Network markets include the following:

  • Advanced metering infrastructure
  • Distribution grid management
  • Home energy management
  • Smart appliances
  • Building energy management
  • Plug-in electric/hybrid vehicles
  • Smart charging systems
  • Solar panel monitoring

Over the next decade, over 1 billion communication modules will be sold worldwide for use in dozens of Smart Energy Network applications in the Utility, Energy, Telecom, IT, Consumer, Building Automation, and Automotive industries.

ON World’s recently published report, “Smart Energy Networks,” provides moderate and aggressive ten year unit/revenue forecasts for each of the top seven markets, presents the highlights from several surveys with 800+ end users, and analyzes the competitive landscape consisting of more than 100 companies.
