It’s almost impossible to watch a half-hour of network television without seeing a commercial for one of the popular online dating sites. According to a 2010 study by Match.com and Chadwick Martin Bailey, 1 out of 5 couples met on an online dating site. Love, Cry, Laugh with Online Dating (published by AuthorHouse) by Jackie Ann Dee is one book meant to reduce the inevitable anxiety of online daters.
Dee’s chapters are a hilarious, scary, and utterly believable portrait of online dating. She introduces her readers to:
- The cowboy wannabe, who arrived at the greasy restaurant with body odor and his big toe sticking out of his muddy boot.
- The recently-divorced man who, after one date, used his ex-wife’s jealousy over the author’s date to get back together with his ex-wife.
- The great guy who, after several wonderful dates, disappeared overseas on a 2-year job assignment.
- The not-so-charming man who – on the first date – offered to pay for a breast enlargement.
Despite these setbacks Love, Cry, Laugh with Online Dating is an optimistic portrait of one woman’s steadfast quest to find love through online dating. With each disappointment Dee offers a clear summation and continues her search. When she does finally meet the man for her in the conclusion of the book, she realizes the fulfillment of all of the bad experiences.
