With an impressive number of prestigious national college acceptances, graduating seniors at The MacDuffie School are reaping the benefits of an academically rigorous program combined with strong extra-curricular interests.
Of the 42 seniors in the 2011 graduating class, each student was admitted to three colleges or universities on average. The cumulative total includes:
- 32 universities ranked in the top 100 of the U.S. News and World Report 2010 National University Rankings;
- More than 142 acceptances to accredited colleges and universities;
- Eight acceptances to colleges on the Princeton Review 2010 list of Best Northeastern Colleges; and,
- Eight acceptances to colleges on the Princeton Review 2010 list of Best Midwestern Colleges.
“This year highlights a path of continued excellence in education and college preparation at our school. With this list of top-ranked, prestigious colleges and universities, our graduates will set the precedent for the next generation of MacDuffie students,” said incoming Headmaster Brian Chatterley. “Our senior class has risen to the challenge of MacDuffie’s rigorous academic requirements, exemplified by an average GPA of 3.17 and SAT scores 11% higher than the national average.”
The MacDuffie School graduates will select from nationally ranked colleges and universities that include:
- Boston College
- Carnegie Mellon University
- Cornell University
- Purdue University
- University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA)
- University of California at Berkley
- Colgate University
“Many factors play into this year’s banner college admission rates,” said Bill Morris, Director of College Counseling. “For instance, we counsel students on the importance of the fit of a school over its prestige, which aids in the initial selection process. In addition, MacDuffie’s focus on instilling strong habits of mind in each student and developing writing skills helped our students stand apart from the crowd this year.”
This fall, the school will debut a new 26-acre campus in Granby, Massachusetts that boasts technology enhanced classrooms and an outdoor leadership course. The campus’ newly renovated dormitories, underground winter-weather tunnel system and state-of-the-art key-less security system set the gold standard for comfort, convenience and safety.
