EarthRise at IONS’ weekend retreats highlight open campus and natural setting to inspire inner vision, perspective, and imagination among participants

And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything.
~ William Shakespeare

Nestled among canopied live oaks and rolling hills, northern California’s 194 acre hillside retreat center, EarthRise at IONS today announced ongoing writer’s workshops beginning June 3, 2011 designed to offer a peaceful encounter with the land and a deeper journey into one’s heart.

Past participants have witnessed the transformative effect this land has had on them. The silent tranquility of this hilltop location, opens one to the inner voice and creative inspiration. The workshops will allow participants to create and build a deeper life while honing their craft within a sacred environment.

“I can’t think of a better way to nourish one’s body and soul than by spending a weekend roaming the hills, encountering the lush ecosystem, and enjoying the company of poets and writers,” says Cathy Coleman,” Executive Director of EarthRise at IONS. “In this world of high stress we offer a counterpoint, a sacred space where individuals can gently move into the inner landscape of their beings to unblock their creative potential and share their inner wisdom.”

The first workshop for writers is Just Write: An Early Summer Writer's Retreat from June 3 – 5, 2011, led by Cathy Coleman. “This is a weekend to just write, away from home and work, away from everyday distractions,” says Coleman. The weekend session will commence with a circle for expressing intentions and conclude with sharing discoveries and valuable processes.

Roger Housden, renowned poet and best-selling author of his Ten Poems series and Seven Sins for a Life Worth Living, will be at EarthRise at IONS October 7 – 9, 2011 to present Seven Steps to a Deeper Life. He will employ a poem to introduce seven central themes to strengthen one’s quality of life by exploring the relationship to mind and body practices through individual and group activities. It is his belief that by creating a small yet dramatic shift, one can create change through the openness of heart and mind. This workshop utilizes poetry to encourage this shift of mindfulness.

Early next year, Kim Rosen, award winning poet, spoken word artist and teacher presents Speaking the Soul: The Transformative Power of Words on January 20 – 22, 2012. This offering is for individuals who are seeking their source of inner passion, peace and inspiration. Words, whether spoken silently or aloud, can dramatically affect the world within and around us. Attendees will naturally incorporate and use words based on ancient, mystical wisdom, as a process of revelation and inner consciousness.

Workshops will enable participant’s adequate time, resources, and support to initiate creativity while facilitators will provide expert hands-on knowledge and advice. In addition to the natural environment and scenic surroundings, guests will gather for communal meals and indulge in sumptuous organic food from the center’s permaculture garden.
