Greenville, SC: In March 2010, BJU Press rolled out a new website uniquely designed for homeschools. For years BJU Press homeschool and Christian school products shared space on bjupress.com; but with the release of the new site, BJU Press recognized the need for homeschool customers to have a place where they can access products designed especially for them. These products include BJU Press Distance Learning and BJU Press homeschool textbooks as well as services like the Academy of Home Education and BJU Press Homeschool Consultants.

Over the past year, BJU Press has been constantly tweaking, refining, and improving parts of bjupresshomeschool.com to improve the user experience for home educators. Currently, bjupresshomeschool.com boasts an attractive, colorful design and streamlined navigation that makes shopping easy—even pleasant. The homepage has information about new products, special offers, and featured resources. An entire section of “Free Homeschool Resources” provides quick access to articles and links about high-interest topics. Another special feature allows homeschoolers to input their zip code to find Solutions Events and curriculum meetings in their area.

Some of the most popular resources on bjupresshomeschool.com are the CHART online seminars—a series of free workshops that cover a variety of educational topics, from Bible integration to elementary phonics. CHART stands for Christian Homeschooling Advancement, Resources and Training, a title that reflects the commitment of BJU Press to homeschooling.

Additionally, the site provides information on BJU Press Testing and Evaluation. “Publishers of the Stanford and the Iowa Tests® don’t sell to individuals,” says Rich Kohler, manager of BJU Press Testing and Evaluation. “We wanted to provide access to these nationally recognized tests for home educators.” These tests provide homeschoolers the opportunity to objectively validate the great job they are doing educating their children. BJU Press Testing and Evaluation is committed to providing secure delivery of the test and the test results in quickest time possible.

Also located at bjupresshomeschool.com is a section about BJU Press Distance Learning. Rather than filming a classroom, BJU Press designed its Distance Learning video classes specifically for the homeschool setting. The teachers speak directly to the homeschool student, providing a one-on-one educational atmosphere. Colorful sets and illustrative props help the child stay engaged in the lesson. BJU Press Distance Learning is available online, on DVD, or on Hard Drive. Distance Learning Online allows a homeschool student to access the lesson videos and other course material anywhere and anytime, as long as he has a computer and high-speed internet.
