Author Helen Margaret Callahan discusses the concept of suffixes as she pens a vibrantly illustrated book made available through Xlibris. Dee Dee Goes For a Walk is recommended for early readers who are anxious to learn and explore.

All throughout the book, words with the suffix “-er” are used. The author begins by introducing Dee Dee, a fun-loving dog that enjoys playing, observing and learning. One day in the park, Dee Dee sees a runner, a skater, a walker, a painter, and a couple of swimmers. She also learns how to be a good shaker, scratcher, listener, sniffer, eater, reader and more.

An educational tool, this book was designed to help young children with the concept of the suffix “-er” as the “one who takes part in” or as “the one who.” It has been the author’s experience that many young children have trouble recognizing this concept for various language screening tests. “My hope is that this book can help children grasp this concept along with the help of a loving character based on my best friend, my dog I call Dee Dee,” says Callahan.

Dee Dee Goes For a Walk will be featured at the BookExpo America in New York City, NY on May 26-28, 2011. For more information on this book, interested parties may log on to http://www.Xlibris.com.

About the Author
Helen Margaret Callahan is a first-time author with an interest in children's literature. As a child, she loved reading with her parents and younger brother. She hopes to encourage this tradition for other young children. She graduated from the University of Akron with a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, and went on to earn her Certificate of Clinical Competence and licensure in Speech-Language Pathology. During her time working with children in Speech Therapy, she discovered the importance of children's books and literacy during therapy treatment in order to increase children's independence, creativity, and comprehension during their everyday activities. The idea of combining important early language skills with her love and her dedication to her pet dog, whom she calls Dee Dee, resulted in her first book, Dee Dee Goes for a Walk. As her father always used to tell her, she hopes that children will, “learn a lot and have lots of fun.”
