On June 5 a brand new annual art event, ‘Art on the Walls’ is being launched to create a magnificent spectacle that will showcase the rich and diverse artistic talent flowing through the area.
‘Art on the Walls’ organisers, Graham Weare and Cindy Rowland, have long been aware of the abundance of artistic talent flourishing in the Stour Valley area, and a joint vision to create an outdoor arts event will showcase that talent. Artists of every kind will be displaying the products of their creative processes. Potters and painters, ceramicists, textile artists, photographers and more besides, no medium of art will be left unrepresented in this celebration of the local artistic community.
Graham and Cindy are going all out to make the inaugural event a truly exciting, engaging and interactive experience. Live music and street entertainment will create a fun and friendly atmosphere where everyone can enjoy family based art workshops, captivating artist’s demonstrations, and of course the fantastic exhibitions of the richly talented artists who will be displaying their work.
One aim of Art on the Walls is to forge close connections with local schools, connections which are already flourishing thanks to a competition for pupils from the surrounding area to design the official event programme. Over 50 budding artists submitted their work, with four year old, Amelie Price, from East Bergholt Primary School, winning the chance to see her artwork printed proudly upon the programme of the day’s events, while 11 year old Adam Giles, from Mistley Norman School, will see his work on the posters for the event. Many of the entries are now on display for the public to enjoy at the Co-op in Manningtree, the East of England Co-operative Society being the main sponsor of the event and playing a big part in helping it become a success, as have additional sponsors The Write Impression LLP, Sparling Benham & Brough Solicitors, EDME Food Ingredients and Mistley Parish Council. Manningtree Town Council and the Mistley Quay Cafe are both ‘Friends’ of Art on the Walls.
Art on the Walls will run in support of Mistley Kids Club, a charity which offers support to local children and families, and given that continued success of the event will see an equally worthwhile charity benefit every year, the event organisers are even more determined to make the potentially annual event a runaway success.
Any artists out there who are yet to get involved, there is still time to add your work to the growing collection of creative talent showcasing on June 5.
